Main #55, Salt Lake, UT 84103-2075 Seasonal Checklist of the Birds of the Niagara RegionThe Seasonal Checklist Committee of the BOS was formed to produce a reference guide for birders describing bird migration in the Niagara Frontier Region. Combing almost forty years of data from the Society's records with personal field experience, the committee has created a guide that illustrates what species may be expected throughout the year. As long as there are birders in the field, these summaries are a never-ending compilation. Since the records period for the checklist closed after December 2000, new species have been verified and many more exceptional records have occurred. Birders are encouraged to compare their observations to the timelines and submit relevant records to the BOS. This publication can be downloaded below.Verification Date GuideIn 1955, the BOS adopted a formal verification system by which the sight records of its members could achieve a more scientific status. This system included a request that members accompany their reports of unusual sightings with detailed written statements so that these reports could be evaluated by the Statisticians and become part of the permanent records of the Society. As a sort of rule book as to which observations required detailed written reports and which did not, the Date Guide was created. Several revisions have been made to update the Date Guide. The most recent revision (2006) is distributed to all new members and can be downloaded below.BOS Field ChecklistA one-page field checklist of birds of the BOS region can be downloaded below. |
