This Willet was a great find by Sue Barth at Hamburg Town Park on the 15th. While these uncommon migrants can and do show up without a weather assist, thunderstorm and heavy rain frequently ground shorebirds during active migration. This was the case with this bird as tropical downpours moved through the region on this date.

The Willets we cross paths with regionally are of the western race, inornata, and may someday be split from the Willets that breed along the Atlantic Coast.
