In spite of the inclement weather, a few raptors came through the Hamburg Hawk Watch today, Apr 2nd. This Northern Harrier gave great views.

Bumping into a Lapland Longspur this time of year is always nice as the birds are starting to molt into alternate plumage. Gina Turone caught up with a flock of 60 on the 5th near Lincoln, Ontario, where she captured this beauty!

Pine Warblers are one of the first warblers to arrive, and they will occasionally overwinter. This glorious splash of color graced the campus of Houghton College in Allegany County and photographed by Ian Campbell on the 2nd.

Chris Hollister found this cryptic American Bittern at Tifft NP on the 1st. April is such a fun month as species start their march north on nights with southerly winds.

This tiny Winter Wren was captured in all of its glory by Bill Massaro on the 6th at Ayers Stevenson Preserve. The detail in this photo is exquisite - note the dark flecking in the belly! Bellisimo!

Continuing from the winter months, these two King Eiders continue to thrill birders along the Buffalo Waterfront from Erie Basin Marina to the Bird Island Pier. Bill Massaro took this photo from the pier on the 12th.

This unusual American Robin was photographed at the Queenston Sand Docks, Niagara on the 12th by Chung Wong. This dilute, or leucistic, plumage gives this bird its pearly appearance.

The winter of 2024/2025 was very good for numbers of Short-eared Owls in the BOS Study Area. It is unusual to still have individuals around as we approach May! John Gordinier photographed three birds in Allegany County near the town of Granger on the 20th.

Tim McIntyre found and photographed this White-eyed Vireo at Reinstein Woods on the 26th. The vireo continued into the 28th, allowing many to see this annual rarity.

Always an exciting find, this male Golden-winged Warbler was photographed by John Gustafson near Jamestown, Chautauqua County on the 26th. This is a declining species regionally.

Furnishing an exceptional record for Allegany County, these 6 Western Willets were found and photographed by Noah Harley along with Drew Thompson and Jackson Medeiros. These Willets put down for a brief time along the Genesee Valley Greenway near the Town of Belfast on the 26th during inclement weather.
