Not often seen during daylight hours was this Great Horned Owl with prey by Karen Lee Lewis while kayaking along 18 Mile Creek, Olcott, NY on the 1st.

Gale VerHague found this Least Bittern in the small wetland behind Tim Horton’s at Dunkirk Harbor on the 2nd. A nice treat to see an individual of this species out in the open.

This Whimbrel stayed offshore of the Seaway Slip along the Buffalo Outer Harbor on the 2nd. Sue Barth found and photographed this bird which was flushed by jet skiers.

Found by Tom Kerr initially, this Baird’s Sandpiper entertained many on the 4th, including Sue Barth who knocked it out of the ballpark with this fabulous image! This bird also chose to rest and feed in the short grass area at the Seaway Slip along the Outer Harbor.

5-7 Common Nighthawks were putting on quite the aerial display at North Marsh of Oak Orchard WMA on the 6th. They've been making appearances at dusk for the past several days in the area.

After many failed attempts, I finally got my first look at a Wilson's Snipe on the 8th. I also got to see the interesting and almost comical walk that these birds share with the American Woodcock!

Juvenile Olive-sided Flycatcher at the Canadaway Creek WMA in Arkwright on September 8th. This one was in the exact same area where I found one on May 18th of this year.

Tom Kerr struck gold on the 24th at Buffalo Audubon’s Beaver Meadow Preserve with this smashing Connecticut Warbler that popped up close enough to allow for a cell phone photo!!! Ka-Boom!

Amazingly, the/a Connecticut Warbler continued into the 25th at Beaver Meadow Audubon Preserve and was joined by a second individual! Scott Diedrich relocated the bird and found the second one as well as managed a few beautiful photos.
